The NCYMCA works in several fields but their main areas of work revolve around the following

YMCA also has experience in working with youth and children in specific areas such as peace and reconciliation and reconstruction, interfaith cooperation, governance and institutional development, child protection and child rights, childhood formation and scouting, youth leadership development, human rights and advocacy and inter cultural and dialogue exchange.
YMCA has worked with the youth of north and east area on human rights & advocacy, peace and reconciliation and reconstruction and inter cultural and dialogue exchange. These programmes were carried out for specially war affected, marginalized and dominated youth. Also, YMCA conducted workshops on raise awareness on the right to information law to the YMCA & YWCA members and some other partners.
Conducts programmes such as bible studies, spiritual progrmmes, devotionals, essay competition, annual retreat programme etc.. Encourage and support regional and local level programme and activities. Working closely with churches to build people spiritually.
As YMCA we have our youth forum, those who involve with community buildup and awareness activities. We have developed local level, regional level and national level youth forum. These forum already has experience in working with the community. Specially this forum is strengthen by sharing the knowledge and experiences of senior expertise of YMCA and attended local and international trainings/workshops.
“Keeping focuses on youth is essential for any country. As YMCA, we work for youth empowerment. The YMCA International Academy (YIA) located at Matara improves young people’s employability prospects by providing them vocational skills for quality jobs. A lot of rural, marginalized, disabled and Tsunami affected young people have been able to improve their lives as a result of the programmes conducted by YIA.
Folk High School Education is a universally recognized concept mostly popular in European Countries such as Denmark, Norway, Germany and Austria. Originated in 1844 in Denmark these school usually operate as residential training institutions that promote “Lifelong learning through non-conventional learning methods. The vision of Folk High School (FHS) is to provide a non-formal adult education which is focused on empowering the creative, logical and social skills of the youth. It also focuses on enhancing their physical and mental stamina to strengthen them to face life’s many challenges with ease. The FHS education has universally proven to produce individuals who are better focused in higher studies as well as their career.
Sri Lanka YMCA is arranging new range of exciting tours and its providing a unique tourism experience. This programme combine the best of the local tourism highlights with an insight into the life-changing work of the local YMCAs. YMCA Alternative Tourism offers visitors the chance to experience the most impressive cultural diversities, real life of the people, and fascinating hospitality with the local YMCAs. Each tour is also a social enterprise that generates resources to support the Youth Empowerment initiatives of the local YMCA and World YMCA. These tours are not limited to just YMCA people and all the people can join with this programme.
Contribute towards peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka, through enhancing the socio-economic reintegration and well-being of conflict-affected young people, in line with YMCA principles (the Kampala Principles and Challenge 21) and enhance the socio-economic reintegration and reconciliation of conflict affected young people in Sri Lanka.
Provide the knowledge and legal advocacy for vulnerable young people regarding their rights, access and benefit from Government or legal authorities and provide legal assistance for their rights and enhance them to overcome from violence against affected people and supporting for their basic needs. Advocacy for human rights issues that affected people are facing and for their rights.
Students from Taichung YMCA visits Sri Lanka twice a year and they spend their time with local community. Through this programme the students gets chance to help to the local community, learn about Sri Lankan culture and experience Simple living style in Sri Lanka.
